Look around your kitchen for potential dangers!

- Make sure you have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen for small fires.
- Make sure your hands are utensils are clean before you start cooking.
- Always pick up a knife by the handle, not the blade. Be careful when cutting.
- Never put your hands near the beaters of an electric mixer while it’s running.
- Never open a food processor until the blades quit running.
- Keep clean, dry oven mitts next to the stove and oven and use them to take things out of the oven and
microwave.
- When cooking on top of the stove, make sure all pot handles are turned toward the center.
- Turn off the oven or burners on the stove as soon as you finish cooking.
- Do not turn on a microwave oven when it is empty.
- Use only utensils and cookware that are microwave safe in the microwave oven.
- Make sure to open covered or sealed dishes very slowly to prevent burns from the hot steam. Tilt the cover
away from your face and hands.
- When using sharp utensils or cooking with heat, make sure that an adult is nearby so that you can ask for
help if you need it.
