Mission

The mission of the Coles County Historic Preservation Advisory Council is to develop, coordinate, execute and support policies/activities intended to preserve historic architectural, engineering, landscape and archaeological resources within Coles County.

History/Oversight

The Coles County Historic Preservation Advisory Council (CCHPAC) was established circa 1980 as an advisory body to the people of Coles County regarding the identification, preservation and management of the County’s historic resources. The CCHPAC is administered by the Coles County Regional Planning and Development Commission and is under ultimate direction of the Coles County Board.

Council Membership

Coles County Historic Preservation Advisory Council members are appointed by the Coles County Board from the pool of County residents. Appointees, at a minimum, must possess a professional background in historic preservation-related disciplines or a committed interest in contributing to county-wide historic preservation advocacy programs.

Meetings

The Coles County Historic Preservation Advisory Council meets nine times annually and additionally as programs require. All meetings are open to the public.

Events

The Coles County Historic Preservation Advisory Council recognizes new County landmarks and county-wide historic preservation achievements through an annual awards ceremony.

Collaboration

The Coles County Historic Preservation Advisory Council strives to develop mutually-beneficial relationships with national, state and local historic preservation-related advocacy organizations, as well as public/private historic preservation stakeholders within the boundaries of Coles County.
