Coles County GIS recently purchased a Leica Smartrover 1200 GPS unit which has the capability of mapping points at a horizontal and vertical accuracy of less than one centimeter. This unit is currently being used to map the bridges, signs, guardrails, and culverts throughout the County. The data will be used to meet the General Accounting Standards Board's (GASB) mandate (GASB 34) to inventory all County assets. The unit is also being used to map utilities in Mattoon.
